The very word can make uptight people grit their teeth in fury, but the selfie is here to stay and you can’t tell me you haven’t tried it at least once (you too lads)! But there is an art to pulling off a good selfie, so read on before taking your next online dating profile picture.
Get the Angle Right
First things first, hold your camera (or more likely phone) in the right position before taking a photo. You’re not 14, so a shot from above where only your fringe is visible isn’t cool anymore. Photos from underneath aren’t any better. We’ve all seen Ricky Gervais’ Twitter photos, I can promise you his online dating profile wouldn’t do well on Luv Traffic. All you have to do is hold your camera at about eye level and click–simples.
Turn Your Flash Off
“I think he was blonde? Might have had freckles? To be honest it was hard to tell, his picture was more overexposed than Miley Cyrus.”
Once you’ve got yourself an online dating photo from the right perspective, other Luv Traffickers should be able to see your face. Do not, under any circumstance, obscure it with an abundance of light. Turn your camera flash off to get the best possible photo. And if it’s too dark, then get into some better light. Remember, you’re part of the best free online dating site around, make sure people can see you!
Smile and Have Fun!
Seems a no brainer but you would be surprised how many people break the Cardinal Rule. When you’re cruising an online dating website, you don’t want to see someone looking moody or, shock horror, pulling the dreaded duck face. The best things to do are smile, laugh, and look like you’re having fun. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so you have to squeeze as much of your personality into your Luv Traffic picture as possible. Take a photo at the match or in front of an interesting landmark. And although you do want potential suitors to know you have friends, try not to include them in your selfie, otherwise it might be confusing which one’s you!
Step Away from the Photoshop!
It pains me to say this, but please don’t try and ‘enhance’ your photo before uploading it to your online dating profile. Most people don’t have the Photoshop skills to alter a selfie in any positive way–either no one will be able to see a difference at all, or you end up with one boob bigger than the other (Google ‘Photoshop fails’ at your peril). Believe me when I say this: we want to see the real you!
If All Else Fails, Snap a Selfie with a Celebrity. At the very least it will get people viewing your Luv Traffic profile!
